Nolan Preece - Bio


Nolan Preece received his MFA in photography and printmaking from Utah State University in 1980. Working in a range of media including photography and intaglio printmaking over the past 40 years, Preece employs both traditional and experimental techniques, allowing for an exploration of new ideas through what he describes as the intuitive balance between process and concept. His portfolios include platinum, silver gelatin, chromogenic, digital and the chemigram, a process that combines an equal mix of painting, printmaking and photography.  

Preece's work has appeared in more than 100 juried, invitational, and solo exhibitions throughout the country and he is in 48 permanent collections including those of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA); Utah Museum of Fine Art; Western Illinois University; The Nevada Museum of Art; The New Orleans Museum of Art; The Snell and Wilmer Collection, Phoenix, AZ; The Print Club of Albany, NY; The Spencer Museum of Art, KS;  and the Southeast Museum of Photography, Daytona Beach, FL.  Preece has toured the U.S. with solo chemigram exhibitions at numerous museums across the U.S.  He is represented by Stremmel Gallery in Reno, NV and by the Walter Wickiser Gallery in Chelsea, New York City. Preece is an emeritus photography professor and gallery director at Truckee Meadows Community College in Reno, NV.
